Life rarely moves in a straight line. Instead, it circles through cycles, wanders into tangents and, if we’re paying attention, reveals progress in often unexpected ways. Perhaps when we look back, progress means something different to each of us, becoming apparent only with time and perspective.
When we search for the themes or cycles within our own lives, we begin to see threads that connect our experiences over time. They show up in the objects we choose to keep close, in the treasured pieces that hold memories, mark milestones, and carry the stories of who we are.
I have two roles in life that bring me to the process of creation: as a jewellery artist, and as a community developer. In both roles, I find myself returning again and again to ideas about what we want to create, who it is for, what is needed, why now, where it may lead, and what we hope to achieve.
In both areas of my work, I help to shape ideas into reality.
When working in community development, my role is often to bring people together, creating opportunities for deeper understanding by recognizing different experiences, perspectives and histories. Through this process, we look for common ground to create pathways for meaningful action.
In my studio, the process unfolds through a conversation with materials. I gather silver, gold, stones, found objects, and images from my photo collection. I consider relationships between each element—their shape, texture, colour and presence, allowing the piece to reveal itself. The process is one of exploration and reflection, where materials guide the direction of the work.
Threads of Inspiration
Over time, themes have naturally emerged within my jewellery. They are not rigid categories, but gently held cycles of creation, gatherings of ideas, forms and inspirations that share qualities and connections.
These ideas reflect the many ways I experience and explore our relationships with the natural world, with each other and with the places that hold meaning. At the same time, themes overlap and continue to evolve. A landscape may inspire a shape. A stone may evoke a memory. A texture may become the beginning of a new exploration.
I invite you to join me as I continue exploring the many ways we express connection to the people, places and relationships we treasure through the natural beauty and preciousness of silver, gold and gemstones — gifts from the earth, each carrying its own story. The themes that follow are not separate categories, but continuing threads within my creative process. They overlap, evolve and return in different forms as I explore connection, memory and the natural world.
Landscapes
My jewellery often begins with the natural world. I am inspired by the patterns and rhythms found in the landscapes around us: the movement of waves and water, the arc of the sun, the rising full moon, fiery sunsets and the meeting place between rocks and shorelines.
These moments become impressions that find their way into form, texture and design.
Forest Impressions
Walking through the woods offers endless inspiration. The forest holds its own language of patterns and connections, one that continues to influence my work. I’m drawn to the pathways and trails, the layers and patterns of twigs and branches, cedar trees, natural plants and the quiet places that invite us to pause and notice.
Home
Home represents belonging, connection and the relationships that ground us. It is found not only in physical spaces, but also in the people, memories and moments that give us a sense of place.
Through spirals, shapes and natural forms, I explore ideas of closeness, harmony and the places, both physical and emotional, where we feel connected to ourselves and others.
Stones
Each stone carries its own character and story.
Cabochons, faceted gemstones and beach stones each have a unique shape, colour, and presence. I approach them with care, seeking the best setting where they can be fully appreciated, where their individual beauty can shine.
Marking Stories
The marks we leave behind tell stories, just as they do in nature. Through shapes, textures and forms, I explore the ways individual and collective experiences become part of our personal landscapes.
Marks become traces of experience and connection, reflecting the paths we travel, the places that shape us, and the stories held within.
Gold
Gold brings warmth, light, and a tangible sense of preciousness. Whether used as the primary material or as an accent, gold highlights the beauty of other elements. It reflects the beauty of the stones it holds, as well as the graceful curves and patterns found throughout the natural world.
Gold has a way of holding and reflecting the preciousness of the materials it surrounds, creating a connection between material and meaning.
An Ongoing Process
The process of creation is never truly finished. Like the themes that inspire my work, it continues to evolve through new experiences, discoveries, and connections.
